Managing a trail race takes many hours of planning and up-front expenses. We want to be flexible and accommodate as many of the participants’ personal needs as possible.
Thus, we respectfully have the following policies:
Swag
All Events – Participants who sign up at least 10 days before the event are guaranteed the advertised swag in their chosen size. Participants who sign up after early registration may be offered an alternative swag item based on availability and may receive swag by visiting the registration table after the event.
Swag will be available at packet pick up and on race day. WRR is unable to deliver, ship, or arrange swag pick up after the completion of an event.
Age Limits
We follow the RRCA Fundamentals of Youth Running guidelines for youth running which state that it is healthy for children to participate in age-appropriate running events. You can check out all ten developmental principles that guide training and racing for young distance runners on the RRCA website.
Western Reserve distance age limits:
- 5k – Children 9 and older
- 5 Miles – Children 12 and older
- 10k to 25k – Children 15 and older
- Marathon and above – Participants must be 18 or older
Headphones
The use of personal music devices is strongly discouraged at all Western Reserve Racing events. To enjoy all that our races have to offer and for the safety of all participants, Western Reserve Racing encourages a headphone-free environment during the running of all of our events.
Dogs
We will allow dogs to run in races under 25k on the condition that they are kept on a non-retractable lead. Participants running with their furry friends may also be asked start the race in a separate wave, about 1-2 minutes behind the main start. This will not affect your time, we will subtract the difference between start times so that participants running with dogs are still able to remain competitive.
The exception to the wave start will be our Muddy Paws race in July. This race is a fundraiser for the HSGA and is specifically designed to accommodate dogs.
Please Note- Dogs are not permitted at Camp Manatoc for Fools 50 & 25k, Leave No Trace Marathon & Half Marathon, Minnehaha 5 Milers, and the Tents & Trails Festival. Kindly leave your pooch at home for these races.
Jogging Strollers
We allow participants to run with jogging strollers in the following road races:
- Race for the Parks (Please note that the 10k involves trails and may not be suitable for many strollers)
- Frosty5 and Mistletoe Mile
- Happy 5k
Participants running with strollers should start in the back and may be asked to start the race in a separate wave, about 1-2 minutes behind the main start. This will not affect your time, we will subtract the difference between start times so that participants running with strollers are still able to remain competitive.
Please Note- We do not allow participants to run with jogging strollers in trail or endurance races.
