Meet Our Comeback Kid!

2018 Burning River Commemorative Poster
Features Northeast Ohio’s Comeback Kid

We trail runners have a special passion for our parks.
Losing ourselves for hours in the woods, we find peace under a leafy canopy, swiftly navigating roots and rocks underfoot, challenging ourselves on the climbs, and relishing in the descent.
Water provides a soothing soundtrack for our adventure, as the river serves as our navigator.
This year’s Burning River Endurance Run commemorative poster is an homage to the event’s namesake — our very own Comeback Kid — the Cuyahoga River.
Katrina Haas, Development Director for Conservancy for Cuyahoga Valley National Park, offers this glimpse into the future of our beloved river:
Water is central to life and connected to all living things. The backbone of Cuyahoga Valley National Park is the water flowing through it.The transformation of the Cuyahoga River from the “river that burned” to a home for river otters, eagles and fish is a story of renewal and dedication of individuals, communities and institutions!
Motivated to have future generations value, protect and experience the Cuyahoga, in 2016, Cuyahoga Valley National Park staff set an audacious 5 year-Strategic Vision —
  • In 2021, the Cuyahoga River Watershed, its metropolitan communities, and Cuyahoga Valley National Park are international symbols of human and ecosystem renewal.Three key success by 2021 include:
  • Getting the Cuyahoga River off a ‘bad list’: Areas of Concern under the Great Lakes Water Quality Agreement because of severe environmental degradation.
  • Getting the river onto two ”good lists’: designation as a National Scenic River and as a National Water Trail.
Spend Burning River weekend with us — and celebrate the transformation of our Comeback Kid!
